How Does Halo Work?

Halo is the world’s first tunable Hybrid Fractional Laser that combines both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. This advanced treatment makes it possible to achieve beautiful results with fewer treatments and with minimal downtime. The unique combination of lasers allows for a virtually pain-free experience and faster recovery. Halo is one of the treatments available on the JOULE X platform, a groundbreaking device that offers numerous cutting-edge treatments with laser and light. The flexibility of the Halo system makes it possible for Dr. Nassif to combine and customize popular methods such as ProFractional and BBL to achieve optimal results for your particular needs.

What are the Benefits of Halo?

The dual laser action of Halo means that several layers of skin can be treated simultaneously for faster and more consistent results. Results from one to two treatments are comparable to five or six treatments of traditional skin resurfacing. You can also get the benefits of more kintensive treatments with faster recovery and a superior outcome. Halo treatments are also highly customizable which allows Dr. Nassif to tailor your treatment to your skin type and your personal aesthetic goals, chosen to enhance and restore your skin quality and appearance.

What to Expect Before Your Treatment?

Before you go ahead with your Halo treatment, you will meet with Dr. Nassif to determine your best treatment option. A board-certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Nassif is respected worldwide for his expertise in his field. With his deep understanding of facial structure and aesthetics, he has all the knowledge and skills needed to customize your treatment to achieve the results you envision. Dr. Nassif may recommend just one or two more aggressive treatments, or he may recommend a course of lighter treatments, depending on what is needed in your case and for your wishes.

Your Halo Procedure

Halo is a minimally invasive procedure requiring only a topical anesthetic. Once the numbing cream has taken effect (in 30 minutes to an hour), the treatment generally takes 30 to 45 minutes. During your Halo procedure you may experience a feeling of heat and a slight pricking sensation. It should not be painful, and most patients experience minimal, if any, discomfort. You may continue to feel warm for 15 to 30 minutes after your procedure depending on your specific type of treatment.

Recovery and Results

For the first 24 hours after your treatment, you will need to keep your skin protected and free of makeup. You can then return to your usual activities. Your skin will begin to peel, and after two to three days, you may start to notice a slight bronzing. When your skin stops peeling after three or four days, you will see new skin appearing. As your skin regenerates, it will continue to improve for months. These results will last for years and can be enhanced or maintained with additional Halo treatments.

How does this treatment compare to other laser resurfacing options?

This technology combines surface resurfacing and deeper skin renewal in one session. Unlike traditional lasers, which require multiple appointments and longer recovery times, it delivers comprehensive results with fewer treatments, making it ideal for patients seeking significant improvement with minimal disruption.

Can this be combined with other treatments?

Yes. It is often combined with broadband light, microneedling, or injectable treatments to further enhance tone, texture, and overall skin quality. Combining treatments allows Dr. Nassif to address multiple concerns simultaneously while maintaining a natural, balanced result.

Is this treatment safe for darker skin tones?

When properly customized, it can be safely performed on a wide range of skin tones. Careful energy selection and treatment planning are essential, which is why physician oversight and experience are critical for safety and optimal results.

How long should I wait before scheduling a social event?

Most patients feel comfortable appearing in public within one to two weeks. Any residual redness can typically be covered with makeup once approved, and skin continues to refine over the following weeks.

How long do results last?

Improvements in tone, texture, and clarity can last for years. Continued collagen stimulation means the skin often continues to improve well beyond the initial healing phase. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to preserve optimal skin quality over time.

What are the risks and possible side effects?

Temporary redness, swelling, warmth, and peeling are expected parts of the healing process. Less common risks include prolonged redness or pigmentation changes, particularly if post-care guidelines are not followed. Under experienced medical supervision, the treatment has a strong safety profile.

What should I avoid after treatment?

Sun exposure, excessive heat, and harsh skincare products should be avoided during the healing process. Following post-treatment instructions carefully is essential to protect results and minimize the risk of irritation or pigment changes.

When is the best time of year to schedule treatment?

While it can be performed year-round, many patients prefer fall or winter when sun exposure is easier to limit. Proper sun protection remains essential year-round.
